PVC or security entrance door: which to choose for a house, and which for a flat

We rarely choose an entrance door but use it every day, so it's worth getting the right one. The biggest difference isn't the look but where the door is: an entrance to a house straight from outside needs a different door than the entrance to a flat from a building's hallway. Here's how to decide.
The first question: where is the door
What matters most is whether the door opens straight to the outside or into a building's hallway. A door facing outside takes rain, sun, frost and big temperature swings, so it has to stand up to the weather and insulate well. A door in a hallway is sheltered from the weather; what you need from it above all is security and sound insulation.
- Entrance to a house, from the yard or a terrace: a PVC entrance door.
- Entrance to a flat from the building's hallway, or to an office: a security entrance door.
PVC entrance doors: for entrances from outside
PVC doors are made to fit the opening, from the same profiles as windows, so they stand up to the weather and keep the heat in. They can be single-leaf, double-leaf or sliding, with glass, a solid panel or a decorative panel, and in a color or wood decor to match the windows.
- Advantages: resistant to damp and sun, good thermal insulation, made to measure, many styles and colors.
- What to look for: ask for a lock with several locking points and a good cylinder, and a threshold that seals well.
See our PVC doors and the decorative panels catalog.
Security doors: for the entrance to a flat
Security doors have a steel construction and several locking points, which makes them much harder to break into. The Gold and Silver models we offer have a frame and leaf of galvanised, plastic-coated sheet steel, a rock wool core for thermal and sound insulation, and certified hardware. On the outside they are clad in MDF panels in several decors, so they look like an ordinary wooden door.
- Gold: 14 locking points and three adjustable hinges, with the leaf reinforced by a steel plate and box sections.
- Silver: 9 locking points and two adjustable hinges, with sheet steel across the whole leaf.
- Standard sizes: 89 x 202 cm and 96 x 204 cm.
- They are made for indoor use, not for an entrance straight from outside.

What else to look at
- Lock and cylinder: even the best door is only as secure as its cylinder. Choose one protected against snapping and key copying.
- Installation: the door must be firmly fixed to the wall and adjusted, or over time the leaf drops, catches and lets air through.
- Insulation: for a door to the outside look at thermal insulation and the threshold; for a door inside a building, at sound insulation.
- Sizes: PVC doors are made to measure, while security doors come in standard sizes, so the opening sometimes needs adjusting.
See them in person
A door is easiest to choose once you've seen and opened it. In our showroom at Masarikova 37, Kisač, Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 16:00, you can compare PVC and security doors and their decors, and at a free measuring visit we'll suggest the door that suits your entrance.

Conclusion: For an entrance to a house straight from outside, choose a made-to-measure PVC entrance door with a good lock and threshold. For the entrance to a flat from a building's hallway, a security door with a steel construction and several locking points gives the most protection. In both cases a good cylinder and proper installation matter just as much.
